Meet Our Founder
I love books. I love stories, escapism and cosiness. Don’t we all? I have memories of reading The Wind in the Willows with my mom, cuddled under her arm and safe while I discovered new worlds. She instilled the love of reading in all of us. And a love of cats. Here at Midnight’s Book Club, nothing goes better than books and cats. Simple
A little while ago I was standing in a very long queue at the municipality and I had come prepared – book in hand. Further along in the queue I saw another woman holding a novel, and thought that she was clever for bringing a book too. It was my sister. We have been given the ultimate gift and here I am, a humble nerd, wanting to pass on the same gift through a book club in South Africa.
So, who am I? I am a book-nerd, an English teacher and theatre kid. Words are my currency, and when I am not struggling to write them myself, then I am discovering and savouring the literary achievements of others.

Midnight is my little familiar. She is a small black cat with a resting-worried face and a very expressive tail. She is my constant reading companion, and so has developed a taste for, and opinion of, literature. Sometimes she may express her feelings for a certain novel by pushing it off the bedside table, or head-butting it while it is in my and. As my mom puts it, “she’s a very nice cat”. Admirable praise for a cat, considering their curmudgeonly natures.

Who are we?
Welcome to our cosy, nerdy online book club in South Africa. Midnight’s book club is our way of connecting with fellow book lovers like you. We are nerds, teachers, writers, students, parents, poets. home-bodies, explorers, imaginists and cat-people. We are a South African book community gathered online to share our joy and love for literature.
We want to share our literary journey with you, fellow book-lovers, or those who are just here because you are partial to adorable felines. through an online book club platform. Here we will review books, challenge ourselves to read more classics, or indulge in other word-related pursuits.
